Reporter 1
Reporter 3: What was the voyage like?
Your job is to answer the question ‘What’? What was the voyage like? How many ships and people went on this voyage, what happened on the way and what did you eat?
The article you will write about this, will be in the form of a diary. You and the other three reporters have joined Columbus's voyage, so you have travelled along on the ships. Your diary will be a report of this voyage. It could look something like this:
2nd of August, 1492
Today we departed from a town called Palos. It's in Spain and it's near Huelva. We are to travel with three ships. They are called .....
Make a list of the three ships that were used on this voyage. Try to say as much about these ships and its crew as you can; what were they called, what did they look like and how fast did they go, who were the crew of the three ships and what were they paid? For information, please visit the websites listed below. You can also find these websites at the Resources Page of the Columbus WebQuest. You don't have to use the information from all of these websites; make your own selection.
Try to find out as much as you can about what went on during the trip. What did you eat (you ate the same thing as the crew) and how would you cook your food.
Write your diary. You can use the example above to start your interview if you wish to.
You can use any date for your diary entries, as long as it's between the 2nd of August 1492 and the 11th of October 1492. End your diary on the 11th of October 1492.
Make at least five diary entries.
Your whole diary should consist of 300 to 500 words. You can also include pictures.
